Part 5, Week 5
This week's Minimum and Medium moods are: Scared, Thoughtful, Working
This week's Maximum moods are: Touched, Dorky, Geeky
I had a lot of fun making variations on Touched last year, as well as with this week's other two moods. Still, there are lots of other potential ways to go with these! What are your thoughts on the matter? Are you going to go with the "physical touch" shortcut for Touched, or do you have something appropriately emotional lined up? Are you all too ready for Geeky and Dorky? Let's talk about it!

Never learned how to stay.
In planning it out, the biggest things seem to be wiping myself down, keeping my hands clean, and brushing my teeth. The usual routines can't be followed and it's making me deeply aware of how I follow them, down to each small step. I'd recommend giving it a shot. Just to be that conscious of it all.

Driving theory test tomorrow
Obviously a 1999 van doesn't have any of those. But
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I have to get up early to go to Turku to take the driver's license theory test tomorrow, and today I took the practice theory test again as soon as I got back from my last driving simulator lesson, and failed with the worst score I've gotten on the practice tests yet (42/50 "situation" questions). Then I took it again immediately and passed with a perfect score for the first time.
I've taken the practice test 7 times in all, but I've also gone through all the practice question sets, which amounts to 60 tests' worth of situation questions and 40 tests' worth of verbal questions (with repetition!), and I have consequently pretty much been at saturation for a while. I can't predict whether I will miss situation questions when I do a set, but that's not because I haven't learned the material, it's because the questions are not at all like a situation you actually encounter while driving; they're more like a sort of Where's Waldo-esque detailed visual search game plus logic puzzle. About half the time I miss them because of something like not noticing that the car is on a priority road (when the sole clue that it's a priority road is the tiny triangular edge of the sign with 80% of the sign cropped off on the extreme edge of the image blending into the windows of an apartment building in the background) or not noticing that it's on a one-way street (when the sole clue that it's a one-way street is some painting on the road facing the wrong way that you can only see if you look in the left side mirror image but it's very small). So I just have to take methylphenidate and count breaths and try to make sure I take my time. And try not to get distracted.
(After the theory test I still have driving lessons in a real car, and then the driving test.)

No verse.
What I really don't like is feeling like I have to get upset and agitated to talk and voice my concerns, and if anyone has any suggestions, I'd welcome them.
I'll say something else good about the day, though, which was small but positive: turning off all the notification settings on my Brooklyn client's phone, and managing to get a fair number of double-bagged planes of glass out for recycling. Hopefully the next batch of planes will be out next week.

keep your stupid crap off my car
I am so, so, so very sorry that my right-side wheels being an inch and a half on top of the white line–not over the white line, not encroaching into the next space, ON the line–bothered you so much that you took time out of your day to leave one of your stupid and pretentious little cards in my driver side window.

Status update + delicious recipe
Before that, I had a visit from
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Current delicious produce from the garden: potatoes, swedes, young beets and carrots, cabbage, chard, leek, onions, garlic, herbs, broad beans, green beans, green peas, zucchini, aubergine, tomatoes, and chiles. I LOVE just going out and harvesting what I need for cooking! We just took up all the onions, and they are now drying in the sun. I think they will be a substantial portion of our yearly consumption.
Today I got one of the ducks to eat from my hand, by means of lying down prone on the grass and stretching out my hand with food on it. They are such ridiculous little duck-billed dinosaurs. Edvin who was previously one of our favorites has unfortunately turned into a schoolyard bully, perhaps because the males from the first group of ducklings from the spring are now old enough to be seen as a threat to his fragile masculinity. The second group of ducklings are now almost full-sized, and we can see their adult colors, though not yet what sex they are.
I hardly ever buy cook books, but a while ago I bought two by the same author, which fit my current needs perfectly: the first one has chapters on various vegetables, and the second on various fruits and berries, so if you've got a particular vegetable/fruit/berry, you can get recipes and inspiration as to what to do with it. They are in Swedish though. He's big on using fruits and berries in savory cooking, and here's a delicious recipe I made yesterday: ( Read more... )

summer semester officially over!!!
and i did well!!!!!
two As and two B-minusesâhonestly, i couldn't ask for anything more. i'm certainly happy with them! now if only i could get rid of this constant feeling of exhaustion (likely from burnout, lmao) that i'm dealing with...
but hey! i'm 75% done with my degree! three more semestersâfall, spring and summerâand i'm FREE! i think the only downside that leaves me is worrying about ~the future~, since i know the (tech) job market is...not great, right now (especially for junior developers) and i don't know how much better or worse it'll get between now and next summer. PLUS the fact that i don't have any experience in the tech industry (because i'm taking full-time semester loads EVERY semester) which is a huge negative. and i hardly have time to work on projects (or even know where to start with those!) for a resumĂŠ or anything....also because i'm constantly busy with classes! it's a lose-lose. especially since i hate school and would genuinely rather be working and i'm so serious about that. i'll deal with annoying coworkers over exams any day of the week because ultimately one place pays you and one puts you further into debt. i don't even care how little i make at my first job! i want OUT.
my fall semester schedule is looking to be busy as hell, too (and one of my classes is with a professor whose "teaching methods", if they can even be called that, i GREATLY despise), but on the bright side i'm done with the more "difficult" math classes! linear algebra was one of the ones i finished with a B-minus. i do have to take a statistics class in the fall (i was going to put it off until next summer, but i needed another class to make my schedule full-time for the sake of financial aid, SOOOO), but it's like...an intro class? and the prerequisite for it is literally just calculus I. which was easy as hell compared to some of the other shit i've had to do since. so y'know. i looked the professor up on ratemyprofessors and people seem to agree that she's friendly and offers extra credit and test reviews even if she does assign a lot of homework, which is about all i can really ask for. managing it on top of my other CS classes should be...interesting, though, but i've gotten through all the other classes thus far so i guess i have no choice but to make it through these ones too (though i noticed that at least two of my fall classes expect me to work in groups. they're online classes. oh boy).

Tristana has pica, but at least she isn't going to the emergency vet hospital in Raisio tonight
So half an hour ago Tristana started being both extremely distressed and moderately distressing: ( cw: vomit )
(When picturing a ping-pong-sized ball of fur, recall that Tristana, while fully grown, is tiny. She was a runt and never fully made up for two weeks as an infant when she didn't gain weight. She weighed 2.3 kg or about 5 lb last year, and she is slim and wiry, the typical bundle-of-twigs/greyhoundish Oriental breed build.)
She's finished regurgitating now, and we put a bowl of clean water and the turtle bed, opened up so she could crawl inside, on the heated floor of the upstairs bathroom for her, and she immediately slunk in there to think about her misfortunes. I mean, to feel sorry for herself, not to analyze; I doubt she has any idea the fur-eating was related to her current distress.
But backing up to about midday today, earlier I had brushed Rowan and then neatly rolled up the excess fluff into a ball like I always do; but instead of carrying it into the kitchen and hiding it in the trash under the sink where Tristana couldn't get it, I left it on top of the trashcan because I was going to come right back and use the same trashbag to change the liners in the bunny litterboxes. I was going to put the soiled paper on top of the fur, so it would have been just as inaccessible. However, I got distracted and forgot.
So this is actually kind of an ADHD tax.
